    If you are in the market for a memory foam product, it is safe bet you have considered a Tempurpedic mattress pad or mattress. Tempur-Pedic are one of the most well known companies in this market, and for good reason.

    The origins of memory foam can be traced back from these mattresses.

    It was back in the early 1970's that NASA was working on relieving astronauts of the incredible g-forces they have to endure during lift-off. A development project was funded to create a substance to this end.

    They believed a foam material would be perfect as it could mould to the individuals body shape and hold this conformity. To allow for body movement and for the foam to reshape after pressure was removed a new foam material was created, visco-elastic.

    It wouldn't be long before it was considered how this fantastic material could be used in the consumer market and in the 1980's Fagerdala Word Foams in Sweden began their experiments.

    It took a few more years but in 1991 the Swedish mattress manufacturer Tempur-Pedic produced the tempurpedic mattress for the sale to the Swedish public. It received a great response and by the following year it was launched in North America.

    Now that the tempurpedic mattress was such a great success story it wasn't long before other manufacturers developed their own visco memory foam. This has lead to where we are now with a fantastic range of memory foam mattress products to choose from covering all budgets.

    What makes a Tempurpedic mattress different from any other memory foam mattress today?

    It all comes down to the actual manufacturing process and the material used. You will only find the Tempur material in products manufactured by Tempur-Pedic. This material is tested by the company for maximum durability and undertakes strict manufacturing procedures and quality control.

    The authentic material that is used in a tempurpedic mattress is only produced in company owned facilities; there are currently two in the United States. It has a unique cell structure compared to other memory foam products. According to Tempur-Pedic, billions of independently moveable micro-cells exchange air through open windows as they reshape and conform to absorb the pressure exerted by your body weight.

    The company is also able to boast that they are the only company whose mattresses and pillows are recognised by NASA and certified by the Space Foundation.

    Among other accolades they have received are the Ease of Use commendation from the Arthritis Foundation and the Good Housekeeping seal.
