    You place the egg crate pad on top of your existing mattress in the same way as you would with memory foam. Depending on the product manufacturer, these toppers are made from either open cell or closed cells. These are built into a shape similar to an egg carton on one side while the other is flat.

    This means that unlike some other topper varieties you will only be able to use on side and are unable to "flip" it over. It's something to bear in mind when making your decision.
